The 8 days of the artist residency included exploration of the village of Elberta, hiking to the top of Elberta Dunes South, hiking in CS Mott, Pete’s Wood to see Spring wildflowers.
I painted: turn of century homes in Elberta, boathouse on Betsie Lake, farmhouse on Upper Herring Lake, fishing boat near Lake Michigan inlet on Lake Arcadia,Victorian cottage at Watervale resort and Elberta sand dunes. There are vistas to paint wherever you turn in the area.
The grocery store in Frankfort provided all the provisions I needed. I dined at The Mayfair one evening located just a block from Surfbill, friendly staff and fair prices for gourmet smash burgers. For craft beer lovers Stormcloud brewery in Frankfort has great selection of Belgian style to IPA. The Surfbill Club house is charming with a delightful covered front porch for morning tea and evening relaxation. The area is quiet and I slept well each night. The house has all the amenities that are needed. I used the room across from the dining room to set up my easel for the few days the weather wasn’t conclusive to painting. I brought a drop cloth to cover floor.
The residency provided the solitude and uninterrupted time for my painting practice. I was thrilled to complete 8 paintings. I would definitely appreciate a return residency.
